Installer quick guide

JAXIAN + Inner Range Inception setup

This guide helps trained security installers set up a JAXIAN apartment intercom deployment and connect it to the building’s Inner Range Inception system.

Before you begin: This guide covers the JAXIAN integration workflow only. It assumes the installer has completed the appropriate Inner Range programming training and is already competent in the installation, commissioning and programming of Inception. Follow Inner Range documentation and site requirements for the underlying security and access-control installation.

What you will configure

The setup is completed in three stages: prepare the Inception system, connect and configure the building in the JAXIAN Installer Portal, then create apartments and resident credential seats before returning to Inception to apply the final access permissions.

Stage 1
Prepare Inner Range Inception

1. Connect Inception through the T4000 Pro

Connect the Inception panel to the Inner Range T4000 Pro and log in to the panel through SkyTunnel.

Typical SkyTunnel address
https://www.skytunnel.com.au/inception/INXXXXXXXX/
Replace INXXXXXXXX with the Inception serial number for the building.

2. Use the JAXIAN credential configuration

For JAXIAN deployments using HID mobile credentials and self-service fob management, use the JAXIAN-approved HID credential configuration. This includes the required HID readers and JAXIAN HID Corporate 1000 physical credentials so HID Origo high-level integration, smartphone credentials and the JAXIAN fob vending workflow can operate as designed.

3. Create and name the doors

Create every required door in Inception and give each door a clear, site-specific name. These names will later appear in JAXIAN when you associate a JAXIAN entrance with its corresponding Inception door.

4. Create lifts and floors

Create the lifts and floors required for the building. Use clear naming for towers, lifts and floors so the correct Inception floor can be selected later when configuring JAXIAN lift and tower access.

5. Configure delivery lockers

For integrated delivery lockers, program each locker in Inception as a Storage Locker. Each locker requires its own Storage Locker record, with the Secure auxiliary programmed to operate the LOX electronic lock fitted to that locker.

A typical naming convention is Locker #1, Locker #2 and so on through the number of lockers installed at the building.

6. Create the building’s access levels

Create all access levels the building will require. In a typical apartment building, each residential floor has its own access level because apartments on the same floor usually share the same door and lift-floor permissions.

Also create the access levels required for building personnel and contractors. Depending on the site, these may include:

  • Master or all access
  • Weekend access
  • Business-hours access
  • Early-morning access for garbage collection
  • Other contractor or service access required by the building

7. Create the JAXIAN integration user

Create a dedicated JAXIAN user in Inception with access to everything that JAXIAN needs to control or reference.

  1. Enable Web Login for the JAXIAN user.
  2. Create the required web username and password.
  3. Under Web Page Profile, select REST Web API User.
  4. Copy the User API Token.
  5. Copy the user’s Web User ID.

The easiest way to obtain the Web User ID is to open the user under Manage User. The ID is displayed in the URL after EditUser?id=.

Example format only
https://www.skytunnel.com.au/inception/INXXXXXXXX/EditUser?id=8c320c3a-b398-4683-9416-3b12fb85f98c
In this example, the value after id= is the Web User ID.
Keep integration credentials secure. Treat the Inception web username, password, API token and Web User ID as sensitive system credentials. Enter them only into the authorised JAXIAN integration workflow and do not place live credentials in documentation, emails or screenshots.

Stage 2
Configure the building in JAXIAN

8. Create the building

Log in to the JAXIAN Installer Portal, create a new building and give it the required building name.

9. Connect the Inception panel

Open the Inception connection for the building. Enter the Inception serial number and the API Token copied earlier. Save the connection, then select Test Connection to confirm communication with the panel.

10. Add the virtual user

Add the JAXIAN virtual user and enter the Web User ID copied from the Inception JAXIAN user. Save the virtual user.

11. Create the Building Manager login

Create the Building Manager login for the site. The Building Manager will use the JAXIAN management portal for the building’s day-to-day JAXIAN administration.

12. Add doors and entrances

Create a JAXIAN door/entrance for every door residents should be able to unlock through JAXIAN. A created entrance can also be assigned its own intercom door station.

For each entrance:

  1. Name the JAXIAN door/entrance.
  2. Select the associated Inception door from the drop-down list.
  3. Save the entrance.
  4. Repeat for every door residents may unlock, every door for which temporary passes may be issued, and every entrance with a JAXIAN intercom door station.

For an intercom entrance, select QR Code for that door to obtain the URL required when setting up the intercom door station.

13. Create lockers

Add each locker in JAXIAN and use a consistent name such as Locker 1, Locker 2 and so on. Select the corresponding Inception Storage Unit, choose the locker size from the three available size options, then save. Repeat for every integrated locker.

14. Configure lift and tower access

Under Lift and Tower Access, create the building/tower structure. Within each building or tower, create each floor, select the corresponding Inception floor, and save. Repeat until all required floors and towers are mapped.

15. Create staff and contractor categories

Create JAXIAN staff and contractor categories that correspond with the access categories prepared in Inception. For each category, specify how many user seats the Building Manager may use.

Example: If the building has a Master Access contractor category and you create 200 seats, the Building Manager can issue up to 200 contractor credentials within that category without needing to perform the day-to-day management in Inception.

Create all required categories and allocate the appropriate number of seats to each.

Stage 3
Create apartments and resident seats

16. Switch to the Building Manager Portal

Log out of the Installer Portal and sign in to the building’s Building Manager Portal.

17. Create each apartment

Create an apartment and enter its apartment number, for example 1302B. Give it a name such as Apartment 1302B. The Building Manager can change this to the resident surname later if preferred. Select the correct tower/building and floor for the apartment.

You can enter the residents’ WhatsApp numbers during commissioning or leave this for residents to complete later. Enter the apartment’s number of car spaces now, or leave this for the Building Manager to complete later.

18. Allocate resident user/fob seats

Select Manage for the apartment and enter the maximum number of users/fobs the apartment is allowed. A typical JAXIAN setup creates 10 seats per apartment.

Select Save Limit. JAXIAN will automatically create the corresponding users in Inception using the naming format:

Apartment Number – User Number
For example: 1302B – User 1, 1302B – User 2 …

19. Assign apartment door access

Select Manage for the apartment and tick every door that apartment should be able to access. Select Save Door Access.

Fob IDs can be entered during commissioning if required, or residents can complete their credential setup later through the JAXIAN workflow. When the apartment configuration is complete, close the management window and continue with the remaining apartments.

20. Print the resident portal QR-code pack

After the apartments have been created, select Print Portal QR Codes. JAXIAN creates a PDF containing an individual instruction page for each apartment, giving that apartment access to its own Resident Portal.

Residents can use the portal to complete their setup, enter their WhatsApp numbers and access JAXIAN resident features. The portal can also be used when setting up the apartment’s fixed intercom handset on a standard tablet, while residents can continue using their phone for mobile JAXIAN functions.

Stage 4
Complete permissions in Inception

21. Apply the final Inception permissions

Once all apartments, resident seats and contractor seats have been created in JAXIAN, log back in to Inception.

You will see the users JAXIAN created for each apartment, along with the contractor users/categories created during setup. Apply the correct Inception access permissions to each user and save the changes.

End state: Once the initial Inception permissions have been configured and saved, the Building Manager can handle normal credential and access administration through JAXIAN without needing to log in to Inception for routine management.
