QR Code Doorbells: How They Work and When They Make Sense
A QR code doorbell replaces the physical push-button interaction with a scan. The visitor uses their phone to begin the contact process, while the resident receives the call through the service behind the QR code.
What is a QR code doorbell?
A QR code placed at an entrance points the visitor to a web-based interaction. The system behind that page then connects the visitor with the appropriate resident or household. The QR code itself is simply the starting point; the usefulness comes from the workflow behind it.
How JAXIAN uses QR codes
JAXIAN can use a QR code at an entrance to start the intercom experience. For JAXIAN Home, that provides a simple front-door experience. For JAXIAN Intercom, the primary apartment-building presentation is a dedicated entrance tablet; QR can also be used as an alternative entry option. Residents are contacted through WhatsApp.
When a QR approach makes sense
- A simple entrance where installing a traditional panel is unnecessary
- A home wanting a low-hardware visitor calling option
- A building trialling or introducing a modern intercom experience
- Situations where residents value mobile answering
- Entrances where a clearly positioned, weather-appropriate QR sign can be used safely
When a dedicated entrance device may be better
A QR code requires the visitor to have a suitable phone and connectivity. For apartment buildings, JAXIAN generally favours a dedicated compatible tablet so the intercom interface is always physically present at the entrance. Accessibility, lighting, weather exposure and visitor demographics should all be considered.
A QR code is not a lock credential
Scanning an intercom QR code should not be confused with presenting a secure access credential. In the JAXIAN intercom flow, the QR code starts communication. Controlled-door access, where required, is a separate part of the system design.
What about QR code replacement or copying?
Physical QR signage should be installed and maintained like any other entrance information. Building teams should periodically check that the displayed code has not been damaged, obscured or replaced. The security of any resulting action depends on the service and access-control design behind the code, not on treating the printed image itself as secret.
JAXIAN Home and apartment buildings
JAXIAN offers options for individual entrances and apartment buildings. Integrated hardware, installation and access-control projects are scoped to the building.
